Ron Paul Wants Us To Go Back To The 1900"s

Ron Paul is the latest Republican to shove his foot into his mouth. After Hurricane Irene moved into Canada, Mr. Paul talked about the way people in Texas have handled hurricanes. He talked about the storm that hit Galveston, Texas in 1900. If I understand correctly Mr. Paul talked about the people of Galveston rebuilding, the island city. He referred to them doing so without  Federal Government help. Paul also left out some important information. Between 8 and 12 thousand people lost their lives that day. Should we disband the National Weather Service and Hurricane Center, so we can save some money. Then when a storm hits, nobody will be prepared. We will loose lives but think of the money that will be saved. In the days after the hurricane hit there was a problem, what were they going to do with the bodies. They first attempted to dump them off shore into the Gulf, but the bodies kept washing up onto the beaches. So they  decided to burn them. Funeral pyres were set up around the city and men were offered whiskey, to help them as they went about the gruesome task of gathering the bodies. The skies were lit at night as the fires continued to burn. Is this really what we want for the people of America? To be treated like a third world country, to save some money. Have we become so uncaring? Mr. Paul is correct, Galveston was eventually rebuilt. The problem, was, because of the damage and the length of time to rebuild, most of the jobs at the port were moved to Houston and the city was never the economic power that it was before the storm. Again, is that the solution? People are placed in harms way. They die. We find the quickest way to get rid of the bodies. They return because the cheap way does not work. We burn them. Finally, we let the city that is destroyed, suffer irreparable damage to its economy and do nothing. Is this the new America, returning to the past and not use resources to help our fellow Americans. I may be wrong but in our Pledge of Allegiance, we state,"One Nation", that is "Nation". We are together. Not individuals. Not separate. Not divided. But one nation.  We help each other. We sacrifice for each other. We give for each other. We fight for each other. Maybe we should change our, " Pledge" to, "One nation under God, divided, with Liberty and Justice for only me." I don't like the new way of living in America. I can either fight to change it, or leave it. Guess, what I am going to do?
